Baltic Medal, Crimea Medal with Sevastopol clasp, Turkish Crimea Medal

Awarded medal(s)

Medal Description [Left to Right]:

Baltic Medal

A campaign medal issued to officers and men of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, and Royal Sappers and Miners who served between March 1854 and August 1855, in Baltic Sea operations against Russia in the Baltic theatre of the Crimean or Aland War.

Crimea Medal with Sevastopol clasp

A campaign medal issued to officers and men of British units which fought against Russia between March 1854 and August 1856. Five clasps were authorised including Sevastopol – this was awarded to those that were involved in the siege that lasted from 11 September 1854 to 9 September 1855. Anyone who received the Balaklava or Inkerman clasps were also awarded this clasp. The ribbon is pale blue with yellow edges.

Turkish Crimea Medal

Instituted by the Sultan of Turkey, this medal was conferred on troops of the three Allies who fought in the Crimea. The obverse types differed in the arrangement of the flags, corresponding with the inscription in English, French or Italian in the exergue. Although the medals were intended to be issued to British, French and Sardinian troops respectively, they were issued haphazardly due to most of the British version being lost at sea.
