David Weaver was born 28 September 1938. He joined the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1956 as a Junior Seaman and obtained the rank of Able Seaman in 1958. He served in HMNZS ROTOITI from 15 February 1957 to 12 August1957 where he was present at the first three Operation Grapple nuclear tests at Malden Island in the central Pacific Ocean: SHORT GRANITE (15 May 1957), ORANGE HERALD (31 May 1957) and PURPLE GRANITE (19 June 1957). Weaver served on many other RNZN vessels during his naval career including the commissioning voyage of HMNZS OTAGO and its first deployment to sea. He discharged from the Navy in 1964. |
